Amazon kicks Newegg's butt!

Postby pfarber » Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:27 pm

So I ordered an ASUS VX238H 23 inch gaming LCD (1ms response time!) with my new PC in December. Since my old laptop setup had 2 monitors, I thought I could live with a single 23in monitor. NOPE. So I look for another ASUS VX238H.

My first place was, of course, NewEgg:

ASUS VX238H Black 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236305
$179.99 but with a $20 rebate and $7.59 shipping it would be $167.58

But Since I also have Amazon Prime ($79/12= $6.58/mo) I looked there and found this (yes, its the exact same monitor)

ASUS VX238H 23-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ANKMNXO
ON SALE for $149.99 PLUS the same $20 rebate for a total of $129.99 (well, $136.57 if you add in the cost of the PRIME membership)

So as always.. SHOP AROUND. Overall saved $40 by simply looking around.

Yes, the monitor kicks ass.... and yes, I need a 46 inch desktop when programming. How did I ever live before multi-headed GPUs???

What about the Newegg 'Iron Egg guarantee'?

Well, this:

The cost difference will be credited to you in the form of a Newegg promotional gift card.

So you get what is basically 'company script'. Useless unless you buy from them... no thanks.

BTW, ASUS rebates are on a craptastic American Express gift card. Good luck finding a place that takes them. I couldn't even buy a Subway Sub with the last one I got. One other crappy thing ASUS does is 'offers' you an expedited mailing option.. for $2. So you can wait 8-10 weeks for the card and get the full $20, or pay $2 and get it in 8-10 days but only get $18.
