PTO Backlash

I tried to reply to a post under the topic “Things Gopan/Dover/WW2 Truck is wrong about” but it appears you can’t post replies there so I thought this would be a good place for a post to point out incorrect information.

In the thread “ Can you help find a part I think I know about” Pfarber wrote:

“……… there is no setting for backlash.”

Pfarber also wrote at the bottom of the thread:

“Again none of these PTOs had a ‘Backlash setting’”

Page 295 in TM9-801 April 1944 paragraph157, section C states:
“There should be a small amount of play between power take-off gear and reverse idler gear (approximately 0.005-0.008) in transmission”

I noticed the posts stating PTOs have no backlash setting still appear in topic “Things Gopan/Dover/WW2 Truck is wrong about”.
Since this information has been proven incorrect shouldn’t it be removed?

No, I'll wear my mistakes on my sleeve... I learned that there is a lash setting, its a good thing. Once I figure out how to combine this thread with the other one it will make sense when its read.
