Hydrovac decals

Postby pfarber » Sun Aug 19, 2018 6:44 am

Since I dont't think there has been any discussion about Bendix Series II hydrovac decals this thread will be my attempt to verify and document the decals, location, and parts used.

I'll cite sources and if anyone contributes I would hope they could do the same. My order of priority for source material is:

Official Manufacturer TM / Parts Books
Other Army documentation (Army Motors, other vehicle TMs, etc)
Manufacturers manuals from Civilian variants
Period Photos
Restored vehicles/post WWII photos

I'll also concentrate on the CCKW Second Series hydrovac used in the mid / late production trucks.

The CCKW used multiple vacs commonly called 'first' and 'second' series. I am not concerned with CCKWX or pre-standardized vac units. If I have any information on them I may add, but the main focus is the second series CCKW vac.

The Bendix PN H-35-25P-96 decodes as follows:

H - Hydrovac
35 - Slave cylinder displacement in 10ths of an inch
25 - this number when multiplied by 10 specifies the line pressure required, at 16in of vacuum, for valve runout (actuation)
P - Specifies that the fluid for valve actuation is supplied by an internally drilled passage with no ball check valve and that only one master cylinder hydraulic line is required.
96 - this number when multiplied by 10 is the total generated line pressure at 16in vacuum.

So H-35-25P-96 means that its a hydrovac unit that has a 3.5cu/in slave cylinder displacement which requires a master cylinder line pressure of 250psi for full valve run out at 16in vacuum. The 'vac will generate a total hydraulic line pressure of 960psi at 16in vacuum.

TM9-1827B lists the CCKW PNs as:
Bendix 373163
Ordnance Number D-72388
Bendix Model Number H-35-25P-96

Repair kit
Bendix PN 373311
Ordnance PN A-303359

Enough Jibba Jabba. Let see some hydrovac porn. And well, I have the money shot...

No CCKW TM shows decals, so I found this part book with a photo of the exact same 'vac. Sometimes you just get lucky.
